SA:a couple of "surprises" revealed

Hi There,
The new album Pariah's Child is out and all is well and dandy I suppose :-) Since we're celebrating our 15th anniversary this year a couple of more special things are to come (in addition to the 15th anniversary shows that are behind us at the moment).

We are currently re-recording Ecliptica for a 2014 fall release. We'll be done with this during the summer since our touring schedule is quite hectic now during the spring. Anyways we've already started this and it's coming along rather well.

Marko Ollila (who wrote the Nightwish book) is writing a book on Sonata Arctica which will be released in the fall as well. At the moment it will be in Finnish and I don't have any further details about translations but I'm sure the Finnish version will not be the only one, the rest of you'll just have to wait.

That's about it. Have a nice day !

cheers,
Henkka

  2. btw, is the Ecliptica re-recording gonna be as-is or have a bit of a newer twist?

either way it will make all the whiny Jani fanboys SO MAD so I already love it. :D

    1. Closer to as-is, we're not trying to rewrite history just make an updated version of it...

    2. Yeah, that makes sense. It's still gonna be interesting, considering the band is 3/5 different and Tony's voice has changed quite a bit over the years!

    3. Can't wait! It's gonna be fun to listen to yet another recording of Replica and My Land ;)
As for Pariah's Child, I love all the "wierd" elements in there, and the parts in Larger Than Life that reminds me of the previous albums.

Btw: It's about 10 years since Reckoning Night *Hint hint, Henrik*.

  3. I'm curious about what you plan to do with the stories you asked some time ago.
Now I long for that book! (in Finnish. That should help to boost my learning, don't you think?).
You too have a nice day :)

  5. Hank, is this book going to tell the band's whole history? Or just focus on some specific part?
Is mary lou (previously a bonus track) going to be re-recorded as well?
Thanks, have some nice rest days at home.

  7. Amazing news!! I really feel this will be your best year! A great anniversary tour, an amazing new record and a "new" Ecliptica! Looking forward to it :)
I have a little question about Larger Than Life, I felt curious about it because it doesn't have much guitars (or I feel it that way) so the question is, it really has only a few guitar parts? And what are the parts you play during that song (I know you play the pianos)
    Cheers!

    1. The piano, there's some organ and a couple of other keyboard sounds but this song is mostly driven by the orchestra.

  8. Henkka Thanks for having this blog, you clarify us many doubts and you give us great information. And I hope you take the habit of drinking a Fernet Branca with Coke, my drink for all weekends. Greetings from Argentina

  9. Get plenty of rest and recuperate all the energy. In Argentina we are concerned that you saw very tired. Thanks for such great music and for being a good musician, you did an excellent job in Pariah's Child, ripped me a smile. Since Unia I waiting for a album like this.

Pd: Describe a little life of members of the band "Larger than life" or is just a song from an imaginary character?

    1. We were all quite tired by the time we got to Argentina but no worries, it's part of the job and you get used to it even though we might look like zombies from time to time. Larger than life is totally fiction as far as I know.

  10. This is the year of major releases. That's nice by the way.
I'm the guy who gave you "And The Weird Turned Pro" to sign for me. You remember me, back there on the Meet And Greet thing on Buenos Aires, Argentina?
Pariah's Child is a really nice album, very catchy and deep as always guys.
Like I said back to you, waiting for your next solo album Henkka, and of course Ecliptica "2014" and why not I Can't Dance cover (I didn't forget that one haha).

    Cheers bro!

    4. Sorry, I don't mean to be creepy. I just have too much time on my hands (yay unemployment) and sometimes the Sonata guys are the only thing that makes me smile throughout the day.... I apologize if you guys are tired of me popping around everywhere. :(

    5. Actually I guess is not that much often that Henkka signed his first solo album, so, it's a nice surprise always to see that.
And yes, it's feel nagging heavvymetalqueen, you're always around everything related to Sonata Arctica in every existing online website.
      Maybe sickly fanatism? Why not.

  11. Hey Henkka!
2014 really is a great year to be a Sonata fan!! Also congrats on the album release, fanatstic job it really kicks ass, some of my new favorites are on there!! :-)

With the exception of a few songs the album sounds pretty live friendly, are you guys going to do a lot of songs from PC on the world tour or only add a couple with the ones that were in the set during the anniverary tour?

    Cheers!

  12. Is there any chance of rerecording 'silence'? Or at least playing 'The end of this chapter' again? I was hoping to hear that song on the tour here in BR, but I didn't. Hahaha

BTW, really good album! Not as old school as I was expecting when I heard Tony saying that it would be. Its closer to Stones... Than to Silence, in my opinion, of course.

    2. Haha, yeah. This is a part of what you replied to me on: "SA:On the road: Finland 15th anniversary part 2 7.2.-11.2.2014 "

"I'll try to take some photos of my rig when we get to the next show since I don't have the stuff at home..."

Still waiting for the photos!! Haha, take your time. I'll see you tonight in Eindhoven!!

You would make me feel so special if you would say "hi" to me in some way. Hehe, I'd wish to meet you guys some day.

I''ll try to make some eye contact with you. I'll probably be the guy staring at you the whole show.

I don't know if you have seen my music exam video I mailed you? Maybe you can recognize me today?

      Cheers!

  17. I've been checking the Pariah's Child tour setlists, and I was wondering if you're gonna play more songs in the future concerts... I mean, I was expecting more than 4 songs from the last album (like you did with SGHN tour). Just as a question, do you think there is any chance to listen to X Marks the Spot alive? cos' I think I've heard that you guys won't do it. Hope u enjoy your PC tour!! cheers!!!

  19. Henkka, I have listened to Pariah's Child, and my god is it ever good. I loved every minute of it. My fave band definitely did a kick ass job. So happy this turned out the way it did. I am also happy to learn about the re-recording of Ecliptica! 8th Commandment and Blank File are killer tunes. Can't wait to hear it.

P.s how is everybody in Sonata doing? How is the tour going?
