SA:Mastering in Helsinki 7.1. & 8.1.2014 & Videoshoot in Lahti 9.1.2014

Monday 6.1.
Took a cab from home, picked up Tony and headed for the train just after 10 in the evening. We opted to fly down to Helsinki but since there was no morningflight out of Kemi on the 7th we had to take the nightrain. In the evening as me & Tommy were having our nightcap we met a 80+ year old doctor dude and chatted with him for some time, interesting conversation indeed.I spent the last waking hours by listening through the new Amoral album.Gonna give it another spin at some point.

Tuesday 7.1.
Woke up around 0800, there was somekinda fire-alarm-whatever going off in the train, no idea what was the deal so I just continued sleeping. As soon as we arrived it was time for a morning ”drink” and then a bit of waiting for Elias & Pasi to show up. When the whole bunch was present we stuffed ourselves into a cab and headed to Chartmakers to start working with Svante on the mastering. For those of you who’re into this stuff, we had the band mix and the vocals separately so that we could do more finetuning at the mastering as opposed to just providing the whole mix with everything in it. Being that there’s always some waiting involved with the mastering, we managed to go through a bunch of promo-pics and deleting stuff that we don’t want to use, didn’t finish going through all the pics though but at least we got started. After spending the whole day at the mastering we had a dinner at the hotel. Masi made an appeareance and Elias & I headed out with him for a few beers.

Wednesday 8.1.
The mastering was finished and radio edits done for a couple of tracks, the rest of the day was spent in a meeting with our manager, trying to sort out as many things as possible, since we don’t go to Helsinki that often. Had a nice dinner at a place called Colorado before calling it a night and getting rested for the videoshoot tomorrow.

btw, this has been sort of a theme song on this trip, enjoy:

Thursday 9.1.
Left the hotel just after breakfast and headed for Lahti and the Sibeliustalo there to shoot the band
part for our first video with this album. This was a surprisingly quick operation and while waiting for everything to be setup we did some video-interview-thing about the album, continued selection promopics and at times…also just waited :-) When everything was done we still had time to hit a pizza place before our train leaved towards the north. A reporter friend of ours also dropped in during the day and there might be some news here: www.soundi.fi at some point.

In the train I started to read the Ministry book which was give to the band by our manager, but only got through around 50 pages or so before falling to sleep. At around 0900 we were in Kemi, Tony dropped me off at home and this trip was done.

Next up in SA-land is the listening party for the new album next Friday (17.1.)

cheers,

Henkka

  1. Can I admit that when I saw the old logo pop up on the new album I went OH HELL NO? I had this sudden horrible feeling that you had finally given in to the people who have been asking and whining and calling you names for you to go back to the old power metal stuff (the same people who are STILL calling you names btw don't read your facebook) and were kinda...giving up on your no-fucks-given progression and evolution? Which I admire most of all? Buuuut the more I look at it the more I *think* I get what's going on there and I'm getting more excited about it. No way it's gonna sound like Silence anyway so no problems there, lol. Sorry for this, I'm just a stupid fangirl and I'm sure you're doing exactly what you want to do and still give no fucks about what people want. Right?

Also I can't wait to see the video! Ullaeus! We might actually get to see your faces in this one, then! :P

....wait, listening party on the 17th? Is Elias gonna be there? Because I thought there was a certain Tuliperse gig in Tampere that same night...?

  2. Very good artwork! Much better title, and that results in a lot of expectation. You can tell me, when did you go to reveal the tracklist?

Ps: How can I go to that listening party haha?

  4. Great news!!! I'm kinda excited about the new album, I don't really care if it goes back to the root, or continue in the way your music was, I just wanna listen to the new stuff and enjoy it ;)

I just wanna know if you're gonna play some of the new songs in the Latin American tour... that would be great :)

  5. Great news! Henkka I know your are coming to Chile with the Ecliptica Anniversary tour on March just 4 days before the new album is releseaded, maybe it's REALLY TOO SOON to ask but do you think you'll be back to south america with the new album's tour too someday in the future?

  6. Regardless of how the new album will sound like, I love how you brought back the old logo.. it's much more playful & artsy than the sombre newest one ..(and not at all like a "Donald Duck version of Metallica's logo") :)
As for the music itself, I know for sure that it's gonna be great, whichever style you've chosen to aim for this time.. variety's the spice of life :)

  7. I cannot wait to hear the album! If it is possible to say at this point; do you plan to release some sort of sample or teaser this time around like the samples video which was made for SGHN? We're all dying to have our first taste of Pariah's Child!

    1. We still haven't discussed the promo-stuff but I would guess that there will be some sort of teaser at some point.

  9. Hi Henkka :) Can you tell me (us) what are you going to do with the fans' stories about the band? I know you saw this question many times, but it's passed quite a long time and I think everybody's curious ;) thanks!!

  10. Wow! 2 singles in 2 months? Can't wait!!
Btw I wanna say to you what i said to Marko last time you came to Italy: SA is my favourite band since i was 12, which is aboutn12 years ago, you grew me with your music and gave me the strengh and the inspiration to start my own band and carry on with them no matter the problems we had. After almost 10 years playing we are in a discographic project trying to release our music and i want to thank you for, unconsciously being the "Wind beneath my wings"!

    1. Well it was more or less the usual deal: the minute you're done with the album and let anyone else know what's gonna be in it...that's when the info gets leaked. So appeareantly someone screwed up... as you can see we had to release the list ourselves since the cat was already out of the bag. www.sonataarctica.info

    2. ah. well at least none of the actual music has leaked yet.

  14. Extremely excited for the new album and any material altogether sir. I would lying if I said that the integration of the old style into the music has me excited but altogether everything you guys have done is brilliant with Cinderblox becoming my second favorite song of yours. You will always have all my support in any endeavor either you boys are involved in. A mix of old and new SA is a beautiful idea to me and returning to your roots somewhat has me happy that you boys didn't abandon your beautiful and catchy past. I was wondering though, a while ago someone released a statement about SGHN saying that Tony was writing about some girl and her Luna Lust. I was wondering what this ever became or was if it was true or not cause it always had me curious.

    1. There seems to be a lot of weird stuff posted as truth these days, someone did indeed say this but it's total bullshit. Actually the whole paragraph in wikipedia which starts with Elias stating something about riffs etc...is not true.

  15. Wow, i'm kinda surprise that you actually reply all the comments!
I remember last time I saw you; I manage to ask if you were tired and the awnser was "Nah. I slept all day."
    So honest.
    Almost Painfull
